Korea DF year online market has increased by more than 44% every, This year it may reach 4 billion USD……

Korea duty free online sales has increased by 44% on yearly average from 2011 to 2017, from which we could expect the sales to exceed 4.5 billion USD this year.
 

In 2011 KDF online sales was 418 billion KRW, in 2017 it was 3,336billion KRW showing 697.14% increase rate. Among the sales in 2017, Cosmetics account for whopping 72.67% which is proved to be the major attraction.

 

Meanwhile online sales portion in KDF market in 2011 was 7.8%, but it exploded to 23.1% in 2017. Under the current tendency online sales will be an unrivalled key channel of the market.

 

Such a big growth of online sales makes us think more of the online sales strategies than any other factors. Accordingly, Shinsegae duty-free opened “C mall (Online DF mall for Chinese)” in August 2016 prior to K Mall(Onilne DF mall for Korean) opening on October 2016).

At the “Retail forum” held at Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul on the 22nd of March, Former VP of Alibaba group, Mr. Porter Erisman clearly stated “Alibaba is now undergoing the development of new technologies to enable the customers to enjoy shopping like games, and the customers will navigate throughout the world in VR to purchase what they want, it is not shopping, but games.”

 

A Korea DF market expert says “We need an strategic approach to online duty free market. The purchasing pattern of online market is much different from that of offline. Analyzing the Big Data is becoming crucial and so is the proper government support and policy development.
